DEEP ROOTED WINES Journey to the Centre of the Universe Blanc Fumé 2024

This wine is a blend of three parcels of Sauvignon blanc from within the Walker Bay. Each parcel is planted on a unique soil type, namely Quartz, Ferricrete and limestone and all farmed either Regeneratively or Organically. There is also a small portion (6%) Semillon

Two thirds whole bunch pressed while the last portion was given 24 hours skin contact prior to pressing. The juice was left to settle overnight before racking to old 400 & 500 litre french oak barrels. Fermentation occurred naturally and the wine was left on its gross lees for 10 months before blending and bottling. This wine is made without any added Sulphites

I had so much fun this vintage, remaining present while facing challenges. Ultimately, the ocean and our cooler climate shines through with Kiwi fruit, green melon, a hint of blackcurrant and oyster shell on the nose while the palate is rich and broad with layers of flavour, coated acidity and a gently savoury finish.

This wine tells the story of how I came to find the place that I call home. After seven years of challenging exploration, working and immersing myself in many great wine regions around the world, I came home and discovered the incredible cool-climate vineyards of Walker Bay. The wildness of this place, from its abundance of fynbos to the roaring wind and sea, creates a desolate landscape that is difficult to cultivate and requires a close relationship with nature in order to thrive.90P.
