I was working as a chef in numerous fine dining restaurants in Cape Town which led to my developing an interest in wine. This interest grew and in 2017 I became a part of the harvest team at Cape Point Vineyards in Noordhoek. I enjoyed it so much that I stayed on for the rest of the year. The following year I enrolled at Elsenburg Agricultural College. I obtained my degree in Viticulture and Oenology, graduating at the top of my class in 2020. In 2021 I began my own label, Alinea - meaning “the beginning of a new train of thought”. 


I love working with unique varieties and sites and aim to create a wine that reflects its origin. When it comes to winemaking I strive for minimal interference. I believe this allows the wine to speak for itself and represent its sense of place. 


I am also fortunate to call myself a grower. Several years ago I began a project that is very close to my heart and planted my own two small vineyards in Noordhoek, Crofter’s Valley. The first block to be planted is only a mere 750 vines of stock-by-paaltjie (echalas) Syrah. Only a few kilometres from the sea, these vines enjoy a sea view. The second block to be planted is a white field blend of 6 different varietals - Grenache Blanc, Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, Colombar, Roussanne and Semillon. A total of 650 vines are planted, also stock-by-paaltjie. This block is planted on the sloping Dassenberg Koppie. Both blocks are organically farmed and the first harvest from both will be in 2024.
